The German pop-star Grönemeyer in a song once asked "Who lives in Düsseldorf?", and Mike Büskens thought the same thing when he moved to FC Schalke 04 in 1992 and then also lived in Gelsenkirchen-Schalke. The very neighbourhood through which Olivier Kruschinski has guided hundreds of thousands of people as a tour guide. 2/6 Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof

A quick tour of Schalke - from Gelsenkirchen main station to the arena. Listen to the introduction of the two tour guides while you are in the tunnel and then keep your eyes peeled. One of the most beautiful buildings in Gelsenkirchen awaits you - and Mike Büskens also has a very personal story to tell.

3/6 Grenzstraße

At the next stop, we cross the old border where the village Schalke once began. Mike Büskens remembers his start at Schalke and Olivier Kruschinski tells you why it's worth getting off here.

4/6 Berlin Bridge

After crossing the Berliner Brücke bridge, the 302 now travels along the Schalker Meile. Olivier Kruschinski is particularly involved here as a representative of the Schalker Markt foundation. Mike Büskens remembers a very special evening in the club pub "Bosch" at the Glückauf stadium. Then it's off on the last leg towards the arena via the Rhine-Herne Canal and the Emscher.

5/6 Glückauf Stadium

The last stage leads in the direction of Gelsenkirchen-Erle. The club moved here, to Berger Feld, in 1973. In addition to the arena, the FC Schalke 04 offices and the remains of the Parkstadion can also be found here. About the tour guide

Mike Büskens (*1968 in Düsseldorf) was a professional footballer (professional from 1992 to 2002 and player-coach in the second team of FC Schalke 04 from 2002 to 2005). He was interim and co-coach at S04 on several occasions - including the promotional season to the Bundesliga in 2022. He also worked for Spvgg Greuther Fürth, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Rapid Vienna, as well as the German U16 and U17 national teams.
Olivier Kruschinski was born on Gelsenkirchen coal and has been a Schalke fan since birth. He has been involved with Schalke's industrial and football history for many years and regularly guides groups through the famous district as part of the "Mythos Tours". Since 2019, he has been Managing Director of the Schalker Markt Foundation, which is helping to revitalise the glamorous district of yesteryear.
