2/7 Grillo Square

Sky reporter and Gelsenkirchen native Dirk grosse Schlarmann is on the lookout for Schalke's DNA for you. As he himself is not that much of an expert on the district, he goes on an interview tour through the neighbourhood for you.

3/7 St. Joseph's Church

As the name suggests, the "Open Church Schalke" project opens up the old St Joseph's Church, which is no longer used for church services by the parish. The building as it stands here can only be found in Schalke - and Regina, from the Open Church Schalke initiative, can add a few more exciting stories about what makes Schalke special.

4/7 Schalke Street

Here in the "Risoli gourmet workshop", Dirk meets Francesco, who came to Schalke from Italy over 30 years ago. Is food and drink the key to Schalke's DNA? Or is it people who all come from far away and now live here? Francesco tells you what he does in Schalke and how he came to Schalke.

5/7 Schalke Market

Do you know the myth of the Schalke market? Historically speaking, perhaps this is where Schalke's DNA lies. Olivier Kruschinski, Managing Director of the Schalke Market Foundation and a passionate tour guide, takes Dirk on a journey back in time to the heyday of the Schalke Market.

6/7 Consolidation Colliery 1/6

The Consol colliery, the Schalke district and FC Schalke 04 were closely linked. Where a supermarket and industrial halls now stand, coal was once dug out of the ground. In the second part of the interview with Olivier Kruschinski, Dirk finds out why coal is and was so important for Schalke.
