Schalke Market - Friedenskirche

When the myth was more than a song
You are standing at the bus stop "Schalker Markt" and are facing Schalker Market. Go to the parking spaces under the bridge. They are located on the right-hand side of the Market.
Look for the ball with the number 31 there. Stand on the footprints and tap on "Start AR".
You can find detailed instructions on how to use the AR applications here on the "AR Help" page.
Alongside St Joseph's Church on Kaiserstraße, the Protestant Friedenskirche was one of the most important religious anchor points in Schalke. After the Second World War, the badly damaged church had to be demolished. From 1882, the Friedenskirche church stood on the Schalke market square. Fritz Szepan married Elise, Ernst Kuzorra's sister, here. In 1959, the city of Gelsenkirchen demolished the remains of the church.
The Friedenskirche was rebuilt elsewhere. The congregation built a new place of worship 260 metres further south as the crow flies. After the Second World War, the Schalker Markt was unrecognisable. Tap on the "Gewerkenstraße" button below to get a glimpse into the past. Under "Kaiserhalle" you will discover the old clubhouse of FC Schalke 04.
