Klaus Täuber
The "Boxer"
Klaus Täuber was born on 17 January 1958 in Erlangen in central Franconia. Exactly 16 years earlier to the day, Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky, some 7,200 kilometres away. Klaus Täuber was nicknamed the "Boxer" because of this. But the nickname was also appropriate for his style of play on the football pitch: the centre-forward was characterised by his willingness to fight and his commitment.
He played for the Royal Blues from 1983 to 1987 and developed into a goalscorer. Among other things, he was on the pitch for the legendary 6:6 against FC Bayern Munich. After his career, the "boxer" worked as a coach, including at Schwarz-Weiß Essen and Westfalia Herne.
